Taste freshness at farmers markets
Take some of the region’s freshest produce and throw in an opportunity for area residents to enjoy a pleasant day with family and friends, and you have the perfect recipe for local farmers markets.
Held at many locations throughout the Tri-State Area, the markets offer a chance to buy fresh fruits and vegetables and to support the men and women who grow them.
You’ll also find a variety of baked goods; jams, jellies and pickles; candies, cookies and fudge; and crafts from local organizations, vendors and crafters.
The markets offer the chance to enjoy some time outside and make a purchase or two along the way.
Here’s a sampling of markets that are being held across the region:
≤ The Steubenville Farmers Market is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Thursday at the former Grant School property at the corner of Fourth and South streets.
≤ The Farmers Market coordinated by the Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District is open from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday in the parking lot of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 852 Main St. in Wintersville.
≤ The Brooke County Farmers Market has a new location — the corner of Sixth and Charles streets in Wellsburg. It is open from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. each Wednesday.
We hope everyone will take some time out of their hectic schedules to visit a farmers’ market, enjoy the nutritional benefits that come from eating fresh fruits and vegetables, relax a little with your friends and neighbors and show your support for local farmers.
