Celebrate early in Follansbee

It may only be October, but the Christmas spirit will be alive and well in Follansbee this weekend with the community’s Christmas in the Park event.

For almost 20 years, Christmas in the Park has provided an opportunity to get a head start on our yuletide celebrations and a reminder of the giving nature of the cherished holiday.

More than 60 vendors have been booked for the event, which runs Saturday and Sunday at Follansbee Park, giving a chance for residents to do a little early shopping while also supporting our local crafters and entrepreneurs.

The festivities, though, also are about giving back, with fundraisers held in support of the Follansbee REACH food pantry and two area children with special needs.

This year, in addition to the traditional music and holiday fare, there will be an extra festive touch with a visit from a group of nutcrackers provided by the Nutcracker Village in Steubenville. They will be on display at the Follansbee Community House for anyone interested in having a look.

Of course, Christmas in the Park wouldn’t be the same without a visit from Santa Claus.

Christmas in the Park has become one of our much-appreciated traditional community events, and we are glad to see it return.

We encourage residents from throughout the Ohio Valley to take some time this weekend, and get into the holiday spirit a little early.
