Riverfest helps region shine

The autumn season is officially underway, which brings with it cooler temperatures and changes to our natural surroundings.

It also means a series of seasonal celebrations for our area, which kick off this weekend with New Cumberland’s Fall Riverfest. Throughout Saturday and Sunday, downtown New Cumberland will include a variety of local food and craft vendors, activities for area young people, an art show, music and more.

It all begins at 9 a.m. Saturday with the Riverfest 5K, proceeds from which benefit the Oak Glen High School Athletics Department. The race will be followed by a welcome from New Cumberland Mayor Will White and performances by the Oak Glen High School Marching Band, the Riverfest Car Show and several local musical acts before a fireworks display caps off the day.

Sunday features a Community Church Service and the Little Miss New Cumberland pageant and a performance by Express Your Talent Dance Ensemble.

Those with artistic talent also have an opportunity to display some of their work with an art show.

A big thanks, of course, goes to the festival committee members who put so much work into bringing this event to our community.

Our area has many wonderful opportunities for residents to come together as a community, and this is just such an occasion. The Riverfest is always a great time, providing New Cumberland and surrounding towns a chance to get outside, sample food and crafts from local businesses, churches and social organizations, listen to some music and just enjoy some time together.

We encourage area residents to take some time out of their weekend and enjoy this great community festival.
