Announcement good for the Tri-State Area

The Tri-State Area received some good news Wednesday, with the announcement of a new manufacturing facility to be located in Weirton.

Officials from the Bologna Italy-based Gruppo Fanti joined W.Va. Gov. Jim Justice; Marvin Six, executive director of the Business Development Corp. of the Northern Panhandle; state Sen. Ryan Weld and others to announce the company, which produces metal and plastic storage containers for use in a variety of other industries, will be locating its first U.S. operation in Weirton.

Current plans are for an investment of $30 million into an unoccupied building within the Half Moon Industrial Park, with operations beginning in the second quarter of 2022 and the creation of at least 40 jobs.

Gruppo Fanti — or the Fanti Group — has operations in several parts of Europe and Africa, and has been making connections with companies in the United States to assist with its work here, which could mean increased business for others in our region.

It was the latest announcement of international companies selecting our region. In recent years, we have seen Canada’s Bidell Gas Compression locate in Weirton’s north end and Pietro Fiorentini, another Italian firm, construct a facility in an area off of Three Springs Drive. It shows there is opportunity for the Northern Panhandle, as well as Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania, not only from throughout the United States but from around the world.

As we approach the holidays, and with much of our focus on the continuing viral pandemic, this is the kind of news we can all get behind.

We thank Gruppo Fanti for selecting the Ohio Valley for its new location, and congratulate all involved for making it happen.

This is one more piece of the puzzle as we continue to build our region’s future.
