A chance to help Christian center
Weirton area residents once again have an opportunity to lend a hand to a local institution.
Saturday will see the return of what has become an annual event with a Stuff the Bus and bowl-a-thon held to benefit the Weirton Christian Center.
Originally planned for earlier this year, the event is aimed at collecting funds and supplies for the Christian Center, which provides services and programs for many of our local youth. From 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., residents will be able to drop off supplies, including paper products, cleaning products, snack items and more in the parking lot of Holiday Lanes in downtown Weirton.
At noon, a bowl-a-thon will be held inside the bowling alley.
It’s all organized by the Holiday Lanes USBC Youth League, meaning this is a true example of youth assisting youth.
The Weirton Christian Center has served the community for more than 100 years, and relies exclusively on donations to fund its operations. That means, without continued support from our residents, there would be difficulty in providing its after-school programs, nutrition programs, tutoring services and summer activities.
That, of course, only scratches the surface of what the Weirton Christian Center does and what it means to the area.
Our community has turned out in the last few years to show its support, contributing multiple school bus loads of supplies and materials. We encourage residents to do the same this year.
