Sharing resources a smart way to go

Not so many years ago, it seemed feasible for small local governments in our area to strive for freestanding street maintenance departments. That era is just a fond memory now.

Officials in three towns — Rayland, Tiltonsville and Yorkville — realized months ago that a new piece of street patching equipment would be beneficial. None of the towns could afford it on their own.

But, with $26,000 in assistance from the Pugliese Foundation, it was possible to buy one piece of equipment to be used by all three villages.

In the future, they will share it — and street maintenance employees. All three towns will benefit from the arrangement.

Good for all involved. As we have commented previously, such sharing deals, involving equipment, facilities and personnel, ought to be embraced by towns, counties and school systems throughout our area as the wave of the future.
