Google event offers valuable lessons
In order to grow, a community needs access to a variety of tools.
It is good, then, that the Mary H. Weir Public Library has been working with Google to bring a new set of digital tools to our area in an attempt to encourage business growth.
The Grow with Google initiative stopped in Weirton on July 31 with representatives of the company working with area job seekers and representatives of local businesses and nonprofit organizations to improve their grasp of various types of technology and online services.
Whether it is writing an e-mail or establishing an online presence for your business, even with our widespread access to technology, not everyone has the knowledge of how to use the various programs or services that are out there.
Grow with Google is in the midst of a national tour, scheduling stops in communities in all 50 states. West Virginia was the 18th state on this year’s circuit, with the initiative selecting Weirton and Huntington for its visits.
They are partnering with libraries in each state, noting the importance they play in every community as a hub of information.
In addition, even after Google leaves, the people of our area will still be able to have access to the information provided through their workshops.
These lessons will continue to be important as our area looks to grow its existing businesses and attract new ones.
We thank Google for selecting Weirton and providing these valuable lessons, and we thank the staff of the Mary H. Weir Public Library for all of their work to make it happen.
