Food truck event something special
What started out as a way to raise money for a local high school class has grown into what could be one of our area’s most unique community events.
The Weirton Food Truck Festival is set to begin at noon Saturday at the Weirton Event Center.
It was organized as a fundraiser for Weir High School’s Class of 2020, with the hope of getting a few food trucks and some local entertainment. With community support, though, the event has grown to include approximately 15 food trucks, serving everything from barbecue to hot dogs, pizza, sushi, tacos, gyros and ice cream.
In addition, there are plans for approximately 30 vendors, offering various products and crafts, face painting, balloon animals and other activities. Entertainment will include local singers and bands, along with some area dance schools.
We would call the response, so far, an astounding success, and we encourage area residents to continue to show their support and attend Saturday’s festival.
The Food Truck Festival was designed to assist a single high school class, but we hope that doesn’t mean this will be the only year we see it. With the right amount of support and a dedicated group of organizers, this has the potential to become a long-time part of our area, joining the list of fairs, festivals and other activities which make the Ohio Valley special.
