Alfred Buccalo Jr.

Alfred Francis Buccalo, Jr., 76, of Denton, Maryland passed away on September 14, 2022. He was born December 30, 1945, to Alfred Francis Buccalo, Sr and Agnes Fabian Buccalo in Follansbee, West Virginia.

He attended St Anthony’s Catholic School from kindergarten until high school graduation. He then attended and graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. Bucky (as he was affectionately known to family and friends) was a member of the Alpha Phi Delta fraternity. The friendships made while at Saint Anthony’s and WVU were precious to him and lasted a lifetime.

After undergrad, he attended the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy, graduated and was assigned to the Canfield post as a Trooper. While there he received the distinguish honor of Trooper of the Year for the State of Ohio. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1984, and transferred to the Ashland post. He retired from the patrol in 1997, and moved with his wife, Sharyn, to the Eastern Shore of Maryland in Denton. During his retirement, he picked up boating as a hobby and enjoyed volunteering for the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Alfred was active with his parish St Benedict/St Elizabeth enjoying the friendship and fellowship. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St Joan of Arc Council, achieving the status Fourth-Degree Knight. Al also had a love of animals, raising Siamese cats and rescuing dogs. He loved having conversations with his cats, and if you know Siamese cats, they always talked back.

He leaves behind his daughter, Elizabeth Buccalo Weimer, son-in-law, William and their two children, Emma (Bob Sommer) and Matthew. A son, Dominic Buccalo, and his children, Magdalayna, Declan, and their mother, Nicole Dittman. As well as many beloved, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Sharyn Luckey Buccalo and his parents.

In lieu of, flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Morning Pointe Assisted Living Facility in Frankfort KY in care of Dana Gravitt.

The family will be holding a private funeral and burial at a later date.
