Darrell Curtis

Darrell Eugene Curtis, a selfless hardworking, first responder who volunteered countless hours to the Weirton community passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, from complications from COVID 19. He was 68.

Darrell was born in Steubenville, OH on September 19, 1953, one of two sons born to Dana and Kathryn Tingler Curtis.

A United States Naval Reservist, Darrell graduated from Weir High School in 1971 and started a forty-nine-year career in the steel industry where he was presently working as the Health and Safety Representative with Cleveland Cliffs in Weirton.

Darrell’s strong work ethic carried on his entire life as he volunteered his time with the former Company One Volunteer Fire Department in Weirton, a life member and board president of the Weirton Area Ambulance and Rescue Squad Board of Directors.

At the rescue squad, Darrell was a devoted instructor in advanced cardiac life, basic life trauma support, Red Cross basic first aid, and advanced first aid. At Weir High and Oak Glen High Schools, he served as an assistant coach. He also volunteered his time for the Weir High Band Boosters.

Even though he had a double lung transplant, and was on the waiting list for a kidney transplant Darrell wanted to get back to work at Cleveland Cliffs, where he worked in the USW Union Hall. He just could not survive the COVID Delta Variant.

In his free time, Darrell loved to hunt and fish but nothing compared to the times he cherished with his family. His grandkids were his world.

Darrell was a member of the Kings Creek Union Chapel in Weirton.

Most of all Darrell will be remembered for his giving nature and his love for his family.

In addition to his parents, Darrell was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Curtis.

He will be remembered with love by his wife, Angelina “Angie” Apesos Curtis, whom he married on June 25, 1994; his five children, Danielle (Terry) Gajtka, Darci (Jason) Dubrasky, Darrick Curtis (Heidi); Alexis (Tyler) Riggs and Tommy Curtis; his nine grandchildren, Kaeleen (Casey) Bruce, Dacoda Curtis, Madelyn, Colton, Dominic, and Luke Dubrasky, and Paxton, Ezekiel, and Taylen Riggs; his two great- grandchildren, Hudson, and Sutton Bruce; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday from 11 AM until the 3 PM funeral at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV.

Rev. Rick Gault will preside

Darrell will be laid to rest at Chestnut Ridge Cemetery in Florence, PA
