Thomas Bennett

Thomas Leo Bennett, 77 of Weirton, WV passed away peacefully at Weirton Medical Center on September 16, 2021 with family by his side.

He was born in St. Mary’s WV on Febuary 20, 1944 to Carlton Lester Bennett and Juanita (Kidder) Bennet-Rice. Thomas was one of 15 children.

Thomas was a devoted father, grandfather and a friend to many. He was employed by Weirton Steel and retired after 38 years. Thomas loved to spend time with family and friends. He had a deep passion for boxing and was a coach in the tri state area for many years. He coached both of his sons to back-to-back each becoming state championships 1978-1979. He will be remembered for his teasing jokes, his wildly entertaining stories, powerful testimonies, unfailing work ethic, his generous smile and his willingness to come at any time at night to help any family member or friend in time of need. He will be truly missed by many and loved by all.

In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his son Carlton “Cotton” Bennett, four brothers, Stanley, Thomas, Shannon and Earl, four sisters, Marty, Robin, Sharon and Melinda, two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Thomas is survived by his seven children Stacey Bennett of Weirton, WV, Christopher Warrick of Burgettstown, PA, Jeremile Alexander of Wheeling, WV, Michael Brown of Steubenville, OH, Jason Brown of Denver CO, Nikki Bennett of New Matamoras, OH and Michelle Bennett of Lost Creek, WV, 26 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, five siblings Russell, Lucille, Vernon, Pam and Donna and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 from 11:00 AM until time of Funeral Service at 1:00 PM at the James Funeral Home, Follansbee, WV (304)527-1717 with Reverend Kenn Jacobs, officiating. Masks are requested.

Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery, Florence, PA.
