John Boka

John “Yonk” Boka, 96, of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2020, at The Laurels of Steubenville.

He was born November 19, 1923, in Mingo Junction, OH, a son of the late Michael and Barbara (Kendrach) Boka.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Thompson Boka; his second wife, Delores E. Boka; a son, Larry “Moose” Morris; two brothers, Mike and George “Honey” Boka; and three sisters, Anna Boka Murphy, Mary Boka Tamboro and Elizabeth Boka Grizzele.

Yonk retired in 1983 after working for 35 years in the 80-inch at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a paratrooper in the Airborne and served in the Civilian Conservation Corp. Yonk was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and the Knights of Pythias.

Surviving are a son, Brant (Diane) Boka of Toronto, OH; a daughter, Connie (Dennis) Quinn of Mingo Junction, OH; six grandchildren, Hank (Jennifer) Boka, Marnie (Marcus) Marashian, Gunnar (Liz) White, Jarrod (Becky) Morris, Jake Morris and Josh Morris; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Anita Boka

Private services were held at Wheeler Funeral Home on Thursday, which would have been his 97th birthday. Connie Quinn officiated his service and burial with military honors by the Ohio Valley Veterans Squad took place at New Alexandria Cemetery.
