Vincent Gurrera

Vincent Gurrera, 85, of Weirton passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at the Weirton Medical Center.

Vince was born on January 2, 1935, the firstborn son to Joseph “Sam” and Dora Gurrera.

He grew up in Weirton and graduated from Steubenville Catholic Central in 1954. After high school, Vince enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served from 1954 until 1962. In July of 1961, Vince married Madeline DiLullo, and together they raised a family of three daughters and two sons.

To provide for his family, Vince worked at the Weirton Steel for 29 years and did plumbing, bricklaying, and construction on the side. His wife, Madeline, took care of the home while being a laundry supervisor for 17 years.

Vince and Madeline found enjoyment in camaraderie with their friends at the Knights of Columbus, and BPOE 1801. Vince was a Fourth Degree Knight and was an Honorary Life Member, and Past Exalted Ruler of the BPOE Lodge 1801 and the Past State President of the Elks and his wife Madeline was the State First Lady of the Elks.

Most notably, nothing was more important to Vince than his family. Even though he worked two or three jobs to provide for them, he never missed an event that his children or grandchildren participated in. No questions asked, Vince saw things in black or white, and he was all about family.

In addition to his parents, Vince was preceded in death by his wife, Madeline; his daughter, Nikki Jean Butto; and his brother, Phil Gurrera.

Vince will be remembered with love by his sons Vince and Joe (Leslee) Gurrera; daughters Debi (Lou) Yakunich and Lisa (Gary) Reitter; son in law Nick Butto; grandchildren, Luke Yakunich, Jennifer (Mira) Aboussaad, Darcy Zorbini, Michael (Mary) Butto, Heather (Jason Randalson) Gurrera, Emily, Anthony, and Angelo Gurrera; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Rich (Diane), George (Stephanie), Thomas (Mary)Gurrera; and sister in law, Pauline Gurrera.

Private family visitation will be held on Saturday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton.

Entombment will follow at Saint Paul’s Cemetery, with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the BPOE 1801 PO Box 269 Weirton, WV 26062
