Earl Roland Hunter, 73, of Follansbee, WV died peacefully on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at the Mary Jane Brooks Care Center at Trinity West in Steubenville, OH.
Born on October 11, 1946 in Wheeling, WV a son of the late Robert and Marjorie (Reitter) Hunter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Mickey Hunter.
Earl graduated in 1964 from Wellsburg High School, and then graduated from West Liberty State College with his bachelor’s in education, and finally his master’s degree in administration from West Virginia University. He retired from Hancock County Schools after 30 years where he taught drivers education at Oak Glen High School, and later at the J.D. Rockefeller Career Center.
His true passion was coaching having coached girls’ softball and later the golf team and the Special Olympics golf team. He was a member of the Wellsburg Moose 1564 and was Presbyterian by faith. He will truly be missed golfing with all of his golf buddies.
Earl is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Evelyn (Van Kirk) Hunter; and two sons, James Hunter at home, Brian Hunter and companion, Jessica of Follansbee, WV; a grandson, Brian Hunter Jr.; a sister, Margi (Dennis) Kellar of Wellsburg, WV; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 30 from 3 p.m. until time of the celebration of Earl’s life at 6 p.m. at the Mullenbach Funeral Home, 669 Main St., Follansbee, WV with Rev. Bill Lawrence officiating.
Inurnment will be held privately at the convenience of the family. The family asks that everyone wear a facemask and follow social distancing. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Brooke County Special Olympics at 1232 Charles St., Wellsburg, WV 26070.
