Chavez praises help for farmers

COLUMBUS — The United States Department of Agriculture announced that farmers who suffered eligible crop losses due to natural disasters in 2023 and 2024 can now apply for assistance through the Supplemental Disaster Relief Program.

“Farmers are the backbone of our country, and they are no stranger to natural disasters,” said state Sen. Brian Chavez, R-Marietta. “I am very proud of the swift action taken by the Trump administration to provide direct relief to our nation’s farmers.”

The Farm Service Agency has launched a pre-filled application process for eligible crop, tree, and vine losses. Eligible losses must be the result of natural disasters occurring in 2023 or 2024. These disasters include wildfires, hurricanes, floods, derechos, excessive heat, tornados, winter storms, smoke exposure, excessive moisture, qualifying droughts, and other related conditions.
