Steubenville resident facing drug charges
STEUBENVILLE — A Steubenville resident is in custody after the Jefferson County Drug Task Force allegedly seized $83,000 in cash and 131 grams of crack and powder cocaine Monday.
Eugene Douglas Hopkins, 34, was taken into custody at a Murphy Avenue property after a two-month investigation, task force commander Capt. Chris Vinci said. Hopkins is being charged with felony counts of trafficking drugs and possession of drugs with a major drug offender specification.
Task force detectives, assisted by the Jefferson County Special Response Team, Steubenville Police Department and members of the Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission, executed warrants at 234 Murphy Ave., where Hopkins was arrested, and 460 S. Fifth St., Steubenville.
Two firearms also were seized, Vinci said.
The Jefferson County Drug Task Force is comprised of members of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Steubenville Police and the Jefferson County Prosecutor’s office.
