Five arrested as part of drug investigation in Weirton

WEIRTON — Five individuals are being held in the West Virginia Northern Regional Jail following a months-long investigation into the reported distribution of fentanyl and crystal methamphetamine in the area.

The Hancock-Brooke-Weirton Drug Task Force served a search warrant Tuesday at 234 Gardner Ave., Weirton, leading to the arrests of William Zimmerman III, 45, of Steubenville; Jason Christopher Darby, 42, of Weirton; Martas Daylone Cromwell-Robinson, 29, of Baltimore; Vance Travis Lytle, 35, of Steubenville; and Heather Danielle Smith, 40, of Steubenville.

The arrests were announced through a press release issued Thursday morning by Weirton Police Chief Charlie Kush.

Representatives of the task force, along with the Weirton Police Department and West Virginia State Police, were involved in the search and arrests, which followed several months of surveillance on the residence. The search discovered “a large amount” of fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine, psilocybin mushrooms and U.S. currency, all of which was seized by law enforcement.

Four of the subjects — Zimmerman, Darby, Cromwell-Robinson and Lytle — were found to be wanted as fugitives from justice in Maryland and Ohio.

They are being held in the West Virginia Northern Regional Jail, with Zimmerman under a $65,000 bond; and Darby, Cromwell-Robinson and Lytle, all on $45,000 out of Hancock County.

Smith is being held on a $45,000 bond from Hancock County, with an additional $2,150 bond from the city of Weirton.

The task force includes representatives of the Weirton Police Department, the sheriff’s departments in Brooke and Hancock counties, the West Virginia State Police and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
