Colliers man pleads guilty to sexual abuse

WELLSBURG — A Colliers man Thursday pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual abuse by custodian and was sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison.

Shaine Black, 26, of Colliers entered the plea before 1st Judicial Circuit Judge Michael Olesazj, who accepted the plea agreement reached by his attorney, Robert McCoid, and Brooke County Prosecuting Attorney Allison Cowden.

Following his release from prison, Black will be required to undergo 50 years of supervised release and register for life as a sexual offender.

Other charges filed against Black in connection with his inappropriate sexual contact with a child in his care on or about Jan. 30, 2021, were dismissed.

Cowden said if the case had gone to trial, she was prepared to offer testimony by the investigating officer with the West Virginia State Police, the victim and another family member.

Asked by Olesazj if he had anything he wished to say to the court, Black replied, “I’m sorry.”
