Candidates file for May 6 primary election
STEUBENVILLE — Eleven candidates met Wednesday’s deadline to seek their party’s nomination in the May 6 primary election.
In Steubenville, three candidates, all Republicans, filed for mayor. Seeking the nomination are Charles Burch, 1320 Arlington Ave.; Kimberly Hahn, 718 Belleview Blvd.; and Ralph A. Petrella, 1665 Moreland Drive.
No Democratic candidate filed.
Mayor Jerry Barilla can’t run for re-election because of term limits.
Other candidates who filed for partisan races across Jefferson County include:
• Steubenville Municipal Court judge: Incumbent Democrat John J. Mascio Jr., 4807 Garden Acres. No Republican filed.
• Second Ward: Incumbent Republican Tracy McManamon, 616 Belleview Blvd. No Democrat filed
• Fourth Ward: Incumbent Democrat Royal Mayo, 544 Highland Ave.; and Republican Marc Barnes, 847 N. Fourth St.
• Sixth Ward: Republican Jennifer Terpenning, 421 Scenic Drive. No Democrat filed.
Several seats are up for grabs in Toronto:
• President of council: Incumbent Democrat Frank E. McEwen Jr., 307 Alpine Drive. No Republican filed.
• Treasurer: Incumbent Democrat James W. Orsini, 523 Nebo Drive. No Republican filed.
• Toronto council at large: Republican Michael T. Burkey, 1002 S. River Ave. Three seats will be open; no other candidates filed.
No one filed for Mingo Junction treasurer or council member.
The deadline to register to vote in the primary is 9 p.m. April 7. This year’s general election will be Nov. 4.
