WEIRTON — Residents experiencing low or no water pressure are able to get some relief from the Weirton Board of Parks and Recreation.

Customers of the Weirton Area Water Board and the Oakland Public Service District will be able to access the shower facilities at the Millsop Community Center, at no cost.

Showers are available from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Those wishing to use the shower facilities must visit the customer service desk at the community center, and present an appropriate identification along with a bill from either water provider with an address that matches their identification.

“We realize there are many residents being affected by the water situation in Weirton, which creates a need for our families that we can help to meet,” said Weirton Park Director Coty Shingle. “The hallmark of Weirton over its long history has been its ability to draw together in uncertain or difficult times to meet challenges. We feel like offering facilities to meet standard hygiene needs is something we’re built to help provide.”

Some affected residents within the city who wish to use the center’s shower facilities may obtain free transportation through Weirton Ride, offered by the Weirton Transit Department.

Those living along the bus service’s regular route may catch a bus from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Residents returning home on the regular bus route are asked to use the bus shelter in front of the Mary H. Weir Public Library.
