The Brooke County Emergency Management Agency has established warming centers in Colliers, Follansbee, Wellsburg and Bethany for those seeking emergency shelter during the current frigid temperatures.

E-Z Pass users warned of scam
CHARLESTON — The West Virginia Parkways Authority and E-Z Pass Group is warning E-Z Pass users not only in West Virginia but in other states of a text messaging scam.
Officials said customers have received text messages claiming to be sent by “E-Z Pass Toll Services” that direct them to click a link to pay an outstanding toll balance to avoid a late fee.
They said the account information in the texts isn’t valid and they should be deleted immediately. Recipients of the texts shouldn’t click on any links embedded in the texts, but if they have, should the West Virginia Parkways Authority or other relevant agency of any erroneous information that has been posted to their accounts.
The FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center has received more than 2,000 complaints about such texts, and the E-Z Pass Group advises those who have received them to report them to that agency at www.ic3.gov.
Park board seat open
WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Commission is accepting letters of interest in a seat on the Brooke Hills Park board.
Letters of interest should be submitted to the office of County Clerk Kimberly Barbetta at the Brooke County Courthouse.
