An old and hollow tree overlooking the Mingo Junction Veterans Memorial has been transformed into a new, patriotic statue. Artist Dan Kidd, owner of Conotton Creek Woodworks in Scio, stands with the former tree, which he carved and painted to depict a bald eagle, the American flag and names of U.S. service branches. Kidd was contracted to repurpose the old tree, which was cut down earlier this year due to its leaves causing problems at the nearby post office. Kidd completed his work over about three days earlier this month. The statue was donated by Mayor Judy Ruckman and Village Administrator Darrin Corrigan.
