Albert “Steve” Welch was among Union Cemetery employees placing American flags beside the graves of former U.S. military personnel in observance of Memorial Day. Observed on the last Monday of May, Memorial Day honors the men and women who died while serving in the armed forces. Communities around the Tri-State Area and the nation will be holding events through the weekend to commemorate the day.
