Man dead in Toronto after fall through window

TORONTO — A local man is dead after apparently leaping head first through the glass pane of a second story window of his North Third Street apartment on Sunday night.

City Police Chief Charley Daniels confirmed the man was declared dead after being transported by ambulance from the scene but didn’t release the man’s name.

Daniels said despite falling about 25 feet to the ground, the man was able to throw a large patio stone at a city police officer dispatched to the scene and initially resisted attempts by local police to apprehend him.

The police chief said once inside the apartment, investigating officers detected what they believed to be a chemical odor, leading them initially to suspect a meth lab was there.

As a result, the city’s fire department was dispatched and the apartment building was evacuated.

But Daniels said no meth lab was found, though officers found quantities of methamphetamines and marijuana there and alcohol spilled on its carpet.
