Man turns himself in

Burton

STEUBENVILLE — A man wanted in connection with the Nov. 21 shooting death of a 3-year-old Wintersville boy is in custody, authorities confirmed Monday.

Andrew M. “Magic” Burton, 30, 87 Gullette Lane, Apt. 41, Weirton, turned himself in Monday and was arraigned in Wintersville county court on charges of reckless homicide, child endangerment, weapons under disability and tampering with evidence. Bond was set at $500,000, Jefferson County Prosecutor Jane Hanlin said.

The victim, Perris Coleman, died of a single gunshot wound to the chest.

His mother, Kaifia Williams, 30, of 719 Douglas Ave., Cross Creek township, Wintersville, had been charged hours after the shooting with two felony counts of obstructing justice as well as child endangerment. Her bond was set at $50,000.

Sheriff Fred Abdalla said Williams had initially told authorities the child was outside playing and a sibling “came inside and said the baby was hurt, so she carried him inside and called 911 and they told her to put the baby in her car” and meet the ambulance at the Wintersville Kroger. Williams also had told authorities she was the only adult in the house, but other children living in the house had told detectives the man who’d been there had fled before they arrived.

The sheriff said detectives recovered evidence that the shot was actually fired in the house, and that Burton was in the house at the time.
