Brilliant man gets sentenced
STEUBENVILLE — A Brilliant man has been sentenced to 10-15 years in prison for the April 24 rape of an 11-year-old girl.
Ashton Edward Bensie, 20, 401 Labelle St., Brilliant was indicted in June on a single count of rape.
Prosecuting Attorney Jane Hanlin said she was satisified with the sentence, “and hope it brings the victim a small measure of peace.”
A male juvenille is also facing charges. Because of his age, he has not been identified.
Alternate plans made for party
STEUBENVILLE — While she’s hoping for sunny weather Saturday, Parks and Recreation Director Lori Fetherolf has contingency plans in case Mother Nature decides to rain on the department’s annual Halloween Party for kids age 1-10.
In the event of rain, Fetherolf said the trick-or-treat party will be moved to Martin Luther King Recreational Center. Parents should check the department’s Facebook page for updates on the party, she said.
The party is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Thanks to a donation from Steubenville Rotarians, Fetherolf said they have plenty of candy to distribute.
