Controlled bow hunt scheduled in Weirton

WEIRTON — The annual controlled bow hunt has been planned in the city to begin Sept. 4.

In order to participate, hunters must have been a resident of Hancock or Brooke counties for the past six months, and attend one of three pre-hunt meetings.

The pre-hunt meetings will be held at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Aug. 10 and 10 a.m. Aug. 21 at the Millsop Community Center. The meetings will begin at their scheduled times, with the doors closed and no one admitted after those times.

Hunters must bring an International Bow Hunter Education Foundation card, a photo identification and a pen to complete their registration paperwork.

Revised regulations for the hunt, permits, maps of the hunting areas and other documents will be issued during these meetings.

In addition, a bow hunt education safety course will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 28 at Marland Heights Park, with a cost of $25. Pre-registration for the safety course may be done by contacting Alexander Archery at (304) 748-8029.
