Temporary road closure announced

WEIRTON — The West Virginia Division of Highways advises that starting at 7 a.m. on Sunday, there will be lane closures on U.S. Route 22 east and U.S. Route 22 west.

The closure will be west of Harmon Creek (Exit 3) and is necessary for Frontier to install a fiber cable replacement and is expected to be completed on Sunday.

Police officers and flaggers will be on site as well as traffic control set up, and motorists are advised to reduce speed and expect delays in this area.

Inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances could change the project schedule.

Wells township trustees to meet

BRILLIANT — Wells township trustees will be holding a special meeting at 5 p.m. Friday at the Wells Township Office, 409 Prospect St., Brilliant.

The meeting will be a reading and vote for a resolution on “no parking” signs.

Wireless retailers distributing backpacks

Local TCC Verizon retailers will each be distributing 150 backpacks filled with school supplies, on a first come first served basis, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Stores at 2203 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville; 864 Main St., Wintersville; and 241 Three Springs Drive, Weirton; will be among nearly 750 TCC and Wireless Zone stores participating in the distribution, which is supported by parent company Round Room LLC.

Launched in 2013, TCC’s annual School Rocks Backpack Giveaway has provided 1.2 million backpacks to youth and is expected to supply about 140,000 this year, according to TCC officials.
