Jefferson County bridge closed

KNOX TOWNSHIP — Due to a bridge closure, township Road 289 near the intersection with county Road 53 (Bergholz-New Somerset Road) is closed to all traffic until further notice. There is no through traffic at that point.

Supplies sought for Brooke students

WELLSBURG — Brooke County Schools is holding a Stuff the Bus event, with area residents invited to donate supplies for local students at the school bus parked outside of the school board office at 1201 Pleasant Ave. through from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday through Aug. 6.

Backpacks, notebooks, paper, pencils, crayons, colored pencils, safety scissors, glue and pocket folders are needed.

Library board to meet Monday

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library board will meet at 1 p.m. Monday in the River Room.

Maintenance and repairs to the two libraries will be among matters discussed.

College to conduct registrations

WEIRTON — West Virginia Northern Community College will conduct registrations for the fall semester from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at its Weirton campus.

Students may speak with officials about admissions and financial aid and meet with advisers.

School board to meet Monday

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Board of Education will hold its next regular meeting at 5 p.m. Monday at its office at 1201 Pleasant Ave.

Council to meet Monday

WELLSBURG — Wellsburg Council will hold a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall to consider the mayor’s committee appointments.

It will be followed by council’s committee meetings, which normally are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month.

Veterans banners to be unveiled

WELLSBURG — The Hometown Heroes committee of the Brooke County Veterans Memorial Park Foundation will unveil the next set of banners honoring local veterans at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Wellsburg Banquet Hall on 12th Street.

Family members of the veterans are invited to take photos of the banners then before they are displayed above city streets.
