Hills donates holiday meals to families

Contributed HELPING OUT — Hills Elementary School is providing Thanksgiving meals to 10 families it serves each week through its food pantry. The meals come with all of the trimmings to brighten their holiday, and the school will also distribute ham dinners for Christmas.

MINGO JUNCTION — Hills Elementary School is helping its own by providing dinners to 10 of its students’ families this Thanksgiving.

Principal Michele Minto said the school has regularly assisted families through its food pantry and Thanksgiving meals have been provided for the past four years. Minto said each dinner comes with all of the trimmings to enjoy a traditional celebration.

“We send food home every week, but on Thanksgiving we send the whole dinner: Turkey, stuffing, potatoes and pie. They get ham for Christmas and it’s all through the school pantry,” she added.

Minto said food is sent home each week to 10 families in need and officials determine who needs help while families may also request assistance. Weekly groceries may include spaghetti and macaroni and cheese, among other lunch and dinner items to ensure the families remain fed.
