STEUBENVILLE — About 30 slot machines were wheeled out of a Sunset Boulevard gaming parlor Wednesday by the Ohio Casino Control Commission.

The business, NUNACC, allegedly operated machines that paid out cash prizes in violation of Ohio law, Communications Director Jessica Franks said.

Franks said OCCC, with help from city police, executed search warrants at NUNACC, located at 4244 Sunset Blvd., and a residence at 823 Buena Vista Blvd. In addition to the machines, Franks said cash, documents, several handguns and narcotics allegedly were seized. Charges are pending, she said.

“We received complaints, so our agents came in and did an investigation,” Franks said as the machines were loaded into a box truck.

“We found out they were operating slot machines in violation of state law.”

Franks said it’s the cash payout that made the machines illegal.

“Once our agents come in and they make a payout in cash, that’s all we need,” she said, adding the investigation is ongoing.

City Manager Jim Mavromatis said they’d been getting complaints about the payouts, and those concerns were relayed to OCCC.

“Several people called about the payouts,” he said. “They also reported finding hypodermics (nearby).”

Franks said even playing the illegal machines can be a misdemeanor offense.
