Jefferson County Port Authority’s update is no update

STEUBENVILLE – While it appears the Jefferson County Port Authority is making progress in its lengthy search for a new director, there was no official update to the public following Wednesday’s meeting.

The board of directors quickly went into an executive session early in the regular meeting – and stayed there for about three hours.

Upon emerging from executive session, no action was taken.

“We went into executive session to discuss personnel matters,” board chairman Greg Nemeth said following the meeting. “It was decided to table the discussion and allow everyone to think about it.”

Multiple people, presumably candidates for the position, were taken into the executive session. Those individuals were not named or discussed afterward.

Nemeth did, however, confirm the director search was one of the topics behind the closed doors.

“It was in relation to the search and other personnel matters involving employees already here,” Nemeth said, noting it was multiple executive sessions back-to-back.

Outside of approving prior minutes and financial statements, the executive sessions were the only business on the agenda.
