Salvation Army in Toronto makes changes

TORONTO — The Salvation Army-Toronto Service Unit has made some changes because of the COVID-19 pandemic, including a new phone number, (740) 381-0640, and Facebook page (The-Salvation-Army-Toronto-Service-Unit.)

Second, because most of its current volunteers are characterized “high risk,” services will be offered again slowly. For July the office, located at Riverview United Methodist Church, 105 N. River Ave., will be open from 9 a.m to noon Wednesday and July 22 to assist with utility bills. Those seeking help are asked to bring their most current bill, proof of income and ID. People who have received assistance since October might not be able to receive assistance now. There might be additional requirements because of the lack funds.

Those who visit the office and asked to wear a face covering when arriving at the office and are asked to stay socially distanced from other people waiting for services.

The unit is in need of healthy volunteers a couple of times a month to help assist with individuals in need. Volunteers should be comfortable making decisions, able to maintain confidentiality, able to operate general office equipment and manage proper paperwork and procedures.

Officials also are looking for a public relations volunteer to write articles, requests, thank-yous and social media posts. Contact (740) 381-0640 to volunteer.
