April 2: Events canceled/postponed due to coronavirus

Due to the precautions being taken surrounding the coronavirus, the following changes have been made regarding events and meetings in the local area:

¯ The Spring Quilt Show to be held at Historic Fort Steuben until April 10 has been canceled.

¯ The Four Seasons Senior Citizens meeting for April has been canceled.

¯ The Harmonium Project has announced that Friday’s First Fridays on Fourth has been canceled.

¯ The Church Women United’s executive board meeting that was set for Friday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church has been canceled.

¯ The Community Bread Basket has postponed its inaugural Bunny Hop 5K, which had been set for Saturday.

¯ Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Wintersville has canceled its Easter egg hunt that was to have been held Saturday.

¯ The annual Weirton Christian Center Stuff the Bus fundraiser, originally planned for Saturday, has been postponed until June 6.

¯ The Chester Council meeting set for April 6 has been canceled and no meeting for April is planned. Those with questions or concerns can contact the city Clerk’s office at (304) 387-2820.

¯ The Jefferson County E-911 Board of Directors meeting for April 6 is canceled. The next scheduled meeting is set for 6 p.m. June 1 at the Jefferson County Emergency Operations Center.

¯ The Woman’s Club of Steubenville meeting scheduled for April 6 has been canceled.

¯ The Steubenville Planning and Zoning Commission meeting scheduled for April 6 has been canceled.

¯ The Chester-Newell Sportsmen Club has canceled its April 7 meeting, along with all remaining spring turkey shoots.

¯ PERI Inc. has canceled its monthly meeting that had been scheduled for April 8.

¯ The Steubenville School Retirees luncheon on April 9 has been canceled.

¯ The April 14 meeting of the Jefferson County Retired Teachers has been canceled.

¯ The Weirton Kiwanis Club has postponed its 69th-annual Radio Auction, which had been scheduled for April 18. A new date will be announced at a later time.

¯ The spring event of the Ohio Valley Music Guild featuring singers from the Pittsburgh Festival Opera scheduled for April 18 has been canceled.

¯ The annual Steelworkers Memorial service, organized by USW Local 2911 and planned for April 28, has been canceled.

¯ Sacred Heart of Mary Church in Weirton has canceled its Lenten dinners.

¯ The Steubenville Rotary Club has suspended its weekly Friday meetings until further notice.

¯The Steubenville Kiwanis Club has suspended its Tuesday noon luncheon meetings for the remainder of March and at the end of March will review how to proceed in April.

¯ Perpetual adoration in the Portiuncula Chapel on the campus of the Franciscan University of Steubenville has been is suspended, but the chapel will remain open for prayer each day from 5 a.m. to midnight. The monstrance will not be exposed.

¯ Country Friends is canceling all events in March and all events in April.

¯ The Thursday Toronto Senior Citizens meeting and trips have been canceled.

¯ The regular Friday meetings of the Steubenville Rotary Club have been suspended until at least April 17, club officials have announced.

¯ Two Ridges Presbyterian Church, 1085 Canton Road, Wintersville, has extended its closure through May 3.

¯ The Steubenville Art Association’s annual spring art show for April has been canceled.

¯ Adult education classes at the Jefferson County JVS have been canceled for the remainder of the term.

¯ All Mingo Knights of Columbus Council 4361 meetings and business meetings and house committee meetings are canceled until further notice. The Mingo Easter egg hunt also is canceled.

¯ The Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church’s “Together” dinners on Wednesday are canceled until further notice.

¯ The Jefferson Metropolitan Housing Authority meeting scheduled for March has been canceled.

¯ The Steel Valley Regional Transit Authority will be operating on Saturday. The Saturday schedule will continue until authorities have determined the COVID-19 pandemic has passed and it is safe to continue normal operations. The service may be used only for essential trips such as travel to employment, medical appointments and grocery stores. Complementary paratransit will also continue to operate for essential trips only.

¯ The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County will be closed until further notice as a measure of safety for employees and the public.

¯ Visitation at the Jefferson County Jail has been suspended until further notice, Sheriff Fred Abdalla has announced. The only exception will be for attorneys who are visiting their clients.

¯ The Brooke County Public Library and its Follansbee branch have been closed.

¯ The Brooke County Courthouse is closed to the public.

¯ The Weirton Municipal Building and the Millsop Community Center have been closed to the public.

¯ The Follansbee City Building business office is closed to the public.

¯ The Mary H. Weir Public Library is closed until the end of March.

¯ Wintersville Village offices have been closed.

¯ The board of directors of the Weirton Senior Center has decided to close the center until further notice. The Hancock Brooke Nutrition program is making frozen meals available to pick up at the senior center today through Friday. Anyone who has ordered a meal for this week can pick it up at the door of the center.
