STEUBENVILLE — Next week state Route 7 between Lincoln Avenue and the Logan Avenue exit is expected to be reduced to one lane in both directions while crews remove heavy boulders and debris that came crashing onto the highway’s berm last week.

Lauren Borell, spokesperson for the Ohio Department of Transportation, said the highway’s northbound lanes will be used for northbound and southbound traffic during the cleanup, which is slated to begin Monday, depending on the weather. Borell said once that occurs, a geological expert will be able to examine the hillside more closely.

No vehicles were struck by the large chunk of hillside that fell onto the berm March 20. The slide occurred following a spate of heavy rain that resulted in several areas being flooded.

Despite that, it was the only rock slide reported in the district, said Borell.

With more rain anticipated this weekend, ODOT officials will be monitoring the area and others along Route 7 very closely, she said.
