Reverse drawing will benefit Indian Creek students

MINGO JUNCTION — An annual fundraiser is set for this month to benefit students at Indian Creek Local Schools.

The Indian Creek Foundation will host its reverse drawing event March 21 at the Mingo Junction Knights of Columbus Hall. The cash bar opens at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. and tickets cost $50, which includes dinner and a chance to win a $2,500 cash prize. Extra tickets for dinner only will be sold for $25 each, and the evening will include a Chinese auction with a variety of gift baskets and other items up for bid. Ticketholders need not be present for the drawings but forfeit their right to vote. Proceeds will go to the foundation to provide scholarships and benefit the students’ education.

“Our goal is to raise about $10,000 and we have done that,” said Superintendent T.C. Chappelear. “We’ve had the drawing for about 14 years and the money goes to the foundation for scholarships and academic opportunities for students to assist the district.”

Previous proceeds have helped provide 3-D printers at the high school, miniature drones for the Indian Creek Middle School STEM program and a LEGOS curriculum at the elementary schools, as well as transportation and support of the ICHS Robotics team.

The foundation was formed in 2002, and the reverse drawing started four years later. Officials said nearly $100,000 has been awarded since its inception and the organization acts as the managing entity for other scholarships awarded on Senior Night, overseeing bequests and other contributions and working with local investment and accounting firms to remain solvent.

Chappelear said 250 tickets were available for sale and about 100 people attend the festivities. Sponsors for the event include the H.E. Neumann Co. Mechanical Service Contractors, Apollo Pro Cleaning and Restoration, Prezkop-Chappelear and Associates AC Certified Public Accountants, Southeast Security, Softite Community Federal Credit Union, Jefferson County Auditor E.J. Conn, the law firm of Bricker and Eckler LLC and Darrin Corrigan, candidate for Jefferson County Clerk of Courts.
