Edison drama club staging ‘The Diviners’

RICHMOND — Faith and fate are the root of Edison High School’s production of “The Diviners” at 8 p.m. March 20-21.

The 2019-20 Drama Club is staging performances under the direction of David Schultz. The full-act play, which was written by Jim Leonard Jr., tells the tale of a preacher battling personal demons and his relationship with a child whose life he saved in a small Indiana town during the Depression-era 1930s.

The cast includes Parker Scaffidi as C.C. Showers, Kaitlin Markert as Buddy Layman, Emma Phillips as Jenny Mae, J.T. Pipo as Ferris Layman, Tommy Phillips as Basil, Sarah Nelson as Norma, Colby Hill as Dewey, Adriana Bertini as Darlene, Jocelyn Smith as Luella, Mychi Stewart as Goldie and Mathew Whitehill as Melvin with Abigail Kinney singing “Amazing Grace.” Rounding out the crew are Katie Yohman as stage manager with Aiden Ferguson and Melodey Clancey as assistants, Alex Booher as lighting designer with Emily Kennedy and Andrew Lamp as assistants, Ben Willison as sound designer with assistant Marian Cline, Cameron Taylor as prop master with assistants Kayla Striker, Kristen Smith and Bella Young, makeup by Raeanna Dawson, Holly Valentine and Kailey Yeager and usher Lita Bennet.

Schultz, who serves as adviser, said the club has been re-established and had not presented plays for at least a decade. Tickets for “The Diviners” cost $8 for adults and $5 for students.
