Pre-K, kindergarten registration set

WELLSBURG — Parents of children entering Brooke County Schools’ pre-kindergarten program for the 2020-21 school year may register them from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 2-6 at the Brooke High School library.

Parents unable to attend may register children who will be 4 years old by Aug. 31 at the school board’s office, 1201 Pleasant Ave., from 8 a.m. to 3 noon weekdays beginning March 9.

Children enrolled in Brooke County Schools’ pre-kindergarten don’t need to register for kindergarten.

Children who will be age 5 by Aug. 31 and not enrolled in the county’s pre-kindergarten may enroll in kindergarten from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays at Brooke Primary North and Brooke Primary South beginning March 2.

Formerly Hooverson Heights Primary School, Brooke Primary North serves children in the Colliers, Follansbee and Weirton areas. Formerly Wellsburg Primary School, Brooke Primary South serves children in the Beech Bottom, Bethany and Wellsburg areas.

To request for children to attend a school outside their residential area, a student transfer request form must be submitted to Tim Pannett. Transfers must be approved by school administrators and the board.

Parents should bring a certified copy of a child’s birth certificate, Social Security card and up-to-date immunization record.

Children must have health assessments completed by a physician and dentist within 45 days of the first day of school. Forms are included in the registration packets. School nurses will check health records.
