Sentences handed down in Jefferson County
STEUBENVILLE — Jacorey D. Culley, 23, of 1501 Oregon Ave. was sentenced to nine months in prison on Monday by Jefferson County Common Pleas Judge Joseph Bruzzese Jr. after Culley pleaded guilty to failure to comply with the order of a police officer.
City Police on Oct. 4 responded to a disturbance call at Culley’s house. Officers arrived to find Culley leaving the scene in a vehicle. An officer attempted to stop Culley but he drove away. Police reported he was traveling at 52 mph on Oregon Avenue. Officers reported residents were outside in yards as Culley drove by.
Culley stopped the vehicle in the 600 block of Ohio Street and was taken into custody.
Ja’Martay Wise, 23, of 1310 Lincoln Ave. was placed on two years of probation on Monday by Common Pleas Judge Michelle Miller after Wise pleaded guilty to improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of cocaine and carrying a concealed weapon.
Wise was wanted for questioning in another case. Detectives executed a search warrant at a residence at 450 S. Fifth St. shortly after noon on June 18.
An officer on patrol saw Wise in a vehicle about 20 minutes later in the 500 block of South Street, pulled the vehicle over and took him into custody. An officer asked Wise if he had anything illegal on him and he pointed to a fanny pack around his waist. The officer reported finding a loaded handgun, cocaine and marijuana inside the fanny pack.
Wise did not have any prior felony convictions. He faces 30 months in prison if he violates probation.
