Driver flees scene after traffic stop

STEUBENVILLE — City Police are looking for a man who fled the scene of a traffic stop on Sunday morning.

An officer noticed a vehicle in the Brady Avenue area make four turns without signaling the turns. The vehicle was stopped at Sunset Boulevard and Calvin Jones Way around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. The driver denied an officer’s request to search the vehicle, police reported. The officer noticed the driver putting the vehicle in drive and told the driver to place it in park. Police reported the driver then fled the area.

Officers lost sight of the vehicle so two cruisers went in different directions. Police reported a call came in about a vehicle driving along Belleview Boulevard at a high rate of speed. Officers checked the area and found the vehicle unoccupied in an alley between Euclid and Ridge avenues.

Officers said they know the identity of the driver, and will be talking with the prosecutor’s office about charges.
