Steubenville Christmas Parade on schedule for today
STEUBENVILLE — Saturday’s weather may be frightful, but organizers say it won’t stop Steubenville’s Sights and Sounds of Christmas: Nutcracker Magic Parade.
Steubenville Visitor Center Executive Director Judy Bratten said the show will go on, rain or shine, despite a forecast calling for a cold rain changing to snow during the afternoon and temperatures in the 30s.
Parade start time is noon.
“We’re on, rain or shine,” Bratten said. “And we may get a surprise with a break on the weather. Some of the units have dropped out but others want to go ahead.”
Bratten said there’s always risk involved with outdoor events.
“We experience this with the summer concerts,” she said, “and we’ve learned to roll with the clouds. We expect to see lots of umbrellas and happy faces — after all, it’s almost Christmas.”
Nearly 100 units, including four marching bands and a number of dance groups, had signed up for the parade, which this year is sponsored by TEAM Automotive Group.
Steubenville City Schools is this year’s grand marshal.
The parade, which will be televised, will go down Fourth Street between North and South streets.
