Section of road to close for slip repair

COLLIERS — A section of St. John’s Road near Cross Creek Road will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Dec. 6 while crews repair a slip there.

State highway officials said the road will be open to school buses but closed to all other traffic during that time.

Eldersville, Tent Church and Cross Creek roads are the official detour during the project.

County engineer releases schedule

STEUBENVILLE — Jefferson County Engineer James Branagan released the work schedule for county highway department crews for next week:

Crack sealing — Smithfield Station-Weems Road (county Road 25).

Ditching — Smithfield Station-Weems Road; Two Ridge Road (county Road 34); and Bergholz-New Somerset Road (county Road 53).

Road improvements — Commercial Street Extension, Mingo Junction, curbs, sidewalk and drainage improvements.

Bridge closure — A bridge on Bergholz-New Somerset Road (county Road 53) is closed 0.8 mile outside of Bergholz until further notice

Bridge replacements — Mingo Junction-Goulds Road (county Road 74) is closed 3.3 miles west of Commercial Street, Mingo Junction.

Weirton police plan checkpoint

WEIRTON — The Weirton Police Department, in conjunction with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint from 7:30 p.m. Friday to 12:30 a.m. Saturday along Penco Road.

The checkpoint is part of efforts to enforce the state’s impaired driving laws.

AARP meeting set for Thursday

WELLSBURG — The Brooke Area AARP chapter will meet at noon Thursday at the Wellsburg Moose Lodge.

Wells Township parade set

BRILLIANT — The Wells Township Christmas Parade will be held Dec. 7 starting at 1 p.m.

The lineup will begin at noon, and the parade will follow a route running from the gazebo to Buckeye North Elementary School on Third Street.
