Two men sentenced on drug trafficking charges

STEUBENVILLE — Two men were sentenced to prison on Tuesday by Jefferson County Common Pleas Judge Joseph Bruzzese Jr. on drug charges.

Brandon E. Adkins, 27, of 206 New Alexandria Road, Brilliant, who pleaded guilty to three counts each of drug trafficking and drug possession and one count of escape, was sentenced to four years in prison.

Jefferson County Prosecutor Jane Hanlin said Adkins and another man were involved in an altercation on Dec. 24 in the city. The other man was chasing Adkins with a baseball bat, telling police Adkins had stolen his methadone, Hanlin said. Adkins told police to search his nearby backpack. Inside, police found drugs. Hanlin said Adkins, after his arrest and release on bond, fled to Indiana, where he was arrested and brought back to Jefferson County.

Anthony T. Dixon, 43, of Steubenville was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to six counts of drug trafficking, each with a school specification, and one count of having a gun as a convicted felon.

Dixon was charged after a raid by the county drug task force.

Bruzzese ordered $1,118 in cash and a gun confiscated during the raid be forfeited to the drug task force.
