Woman dies after

falling from fire truck

ADENA — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the death of a Edgerton, Ohio, woman after she reportedly fell from a fire truck.

According to the patrol, at 12:20 p.m. Sunday, a Short Creek fire engine was traveling south on Jefferson County Route 6 in Smithfield Township when a passenger in the fire engine, Marguerite E. Appel, 64, was killed when she fell from the interior of the fire engine when the door was opened.

The death remains under investigation.

PERI Chapter 5 will

meet Wednesday

STEUBENVILLE — Jefferson County Chapter 5 of the Public Employees Retirement Inc. will meet at noon Wednesday.

The meeting will be held at the YWCA, 320 N. Fourth St. Lunch will be served at noon.

Portion of Route 2 to

close for slip repair

NEW CUMBERLAND — A portion of state Route 2 through New Cumberland will be closed for a slip repair, according to officials with the West Virginia Division of Highways.

The closure will occur from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. today through Sept. 27. Traffic will be maintained by temporary traffic signals during non-working hours.

Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour route. Inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances could change the project schedule.

Celebrate Recovery

plans Thursday event

NEW CUMBERLAND –Tri-State Celebrate Recovery will celebrate its third anniversary when it meets Thursday at the New Cumberland Christian Church.

The evening will begin with a light supper at 5:15 p.m., which will be followed by the group meeting at 6 p.m. The program will feature live testimony as well as Chrisitan music.

A Christian-based, 12-step program focusing on hurts, habits and hang-ups, the organization meets every Thursday.
