at chemical plant
POTTERY ADDITION — Firefighters from several departments worked Thursday morning to extinguish a chemical fire at Barium and Chemicals.
John Parker, county Emergency Management Agency director, said a chemical ignited and firefighters had to use a special procedure to extinguish the blaze because water couldn’t be applied.
It is the third fire at the plant this summer.
Pottery Addition, Pleasant Hill, Toronto and Steubenville fire departments responded in addition to the county’s hazardous materials team.
The state fire marshal will be doing an investigation, Parker said. He said there was no danger to the residents in the area.
Parker said Barium and Chemicals employees work closely with and train with the county hazardous materials team.
