Labor Day Luau Golf Event in Wellsburg has everything from bar to goats

NOT YOUR AVERAGE GOLF EVENT — Luke Diserio, president of the Wellsburg Chamber of Commerce, and his dog, Tootz, prepare for the Labor Day Luau Golf Event, set for Aug. 31 at Brooke Hills Park Golf Course. WELLSBURG — The Wellsburg Chamber of Commerce’s upcoming fundraiser promises to be more than your average golf event.

The Labor Day Luau Golf Event, set for Aug. 31 at the Brooke Hills Park Golf Course, will have everything from a Bloody Mary bar to miniature goats.

“This will be a fun, different golf scramble,” said Luke Diserio, president of the chamber. “We want this to be more of a community event, more than just a fundraiser — something that has never been done before.”

Diserio said the event will start with a Bloody Mary bar open to golfers before the 8 a.m. shotgun start. All players are encouraged to wear wacky beachwear and will be given a grass skirt they must wear during the event.

“Think Jimmy Buffet clothes,” he said.

There will be a prize for the person dressed in a way that best captures the spirit of the event.

For players opting not to follow the dress code, there is an option to leave the grass skirt behind – but it will cost you. Diserio said anyone can take the skirt off for a $20 donation to the chamber.

There are other ways donations can help golfers have the best game of their careers, Diserio said that for the right price, golfers can donate to have their scores lowered.

“We will count the hole as a birdie (for example),” he explained.

Diserio said there will be surprises as players move along the course. At one tee, he said there will be a beverage tent set up and miniature goats. “It will be more fun than your commercial golf scramble,” he said. “There will be off-the-wall things happening throughout the course.”

The Brooke High School dance team also will make an appearance.

Diserio said that following the scramble, there will be a dinner provided including a pig roast, roasted chicken and an open bar.

The cost for a three-person team is $100. The entry fee covers the event, food and drink.

The chamber is also accepting sponsor opportunities. The cost to sponsor a hole, which includes a printed sign at the tee-box, is $50. To sponsor food it is $100 and includes a sign at the clubhouse and tee-box. For $250, someone can be a beverage sponsor. This includes one team entry, and printed signs at the beverage location. The cost to be an executive sponsor and have two team entries, signs at the clubhouse and tee-boxes as well as be included in all marketing materials is $1,000.

The deadline for entry or sponsorship is Friday. For information, call (304) 479-2115 or Diserio at (304) 670-9015.
