Hanging out at the fair

Lillian Churchman, a cheerleader at Toronto High School, was on hand for the cheerleading contest at the Jefferson County Fair. She stopped to visit with Uncle Sam, one of the scarecrows in the open class competition. There also were three Minions, Aladdin with his magic lamp and a ghoulish character entered in the contest. Activities set for today include the home talent truck and modified tractor pull at 7 p.m. at the grandstand, and the square dance at 9 p.m. at the livestock arena. Saturday’s events include the grand parade at 10 a.m. and the livestock sale beginning at noon. The 148th-annual event will conclude Sunday at the fairgrounds, located at Friendship Park in Smithfield.
