Four arrested at Saturday checkpoint
STEUBENVILLE — Four people were arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol during a checkpoint operated by the Ohio State Highway Patrol this weekend.
The patrol, in conjunction with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and Steubenville Police, stopped 400 vehicles at the checkpoint between 10 p.m. on Saturday and 2 a.m. on Sunday located on state Route 7 at Ross Street.
The patrol reported 23 vehicles were diverted for further checking.
Of the 23 vehicles that were diverted, 19 drivers were checked for alcohol use, four were arrested for OVI, two were charged with driving with a suspended license, one was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and one arrest was made for a weapons violation.
The patrol and supporting agencies conducted saturation patrols around the area of the checkpoint and made two additional drunk-driving arrests.
