Collision aftermath

Kim Hython of Steubenville was flown by a STAT MedEvac helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital after the car she was driving was struck on the driver’s side by a tanker truck at the intersection of state Route 7 and Washington Street around 11:48 a.m. Wednesday. Steubenville firefighters worked for about 15 minutes with hydraulic tools to free Hython from the vehicle. Hython is a cook at the Jefferson County Jail, and was turning north coming out of the jail. Sheriff Fred Abdalla said she is in stable condition with a fractured pelvis. The driver of the truck, Howard A. Bichsel, 60, of Alliance was charged with a red light violation. The accident was witnessed by City Police Chief William McCafferty, who said the truck ran the red light heading north on state Route 7.
