Speaker selected for Memorial Day ceremonies

SMITHFIELD — The speaker has been selected for the Jefferson County Veterans Association Memorial Day ceremonies to be held on Memorial Day at the Friendship Veterans Memorial Park.

Jason Lambright a resident of Smithfield and a graduate of Buckeye Local High School who has served many tours of duty in Afghanistan, will be the main speaker. Those attending are asked to bring lawn chairs as there is no seating there. There will be light refreshments following the service in the Jefferson County Fair Kitchen.

The plans for Memorial Day were made at the May meeting held at the Friendship Park office. Commander Frank Santa conducted the meeting.

A discussion was held for laying the final bricks to the Memorial Wall before Memorial Day and for purchasing two name-inscribed benches for the museum. The wall has expanded greatly with the names of those who served since World War to the present.

New members Barbara Baird and Dan Yaich have joined the veterans group.

A Veterans breakfast will be held at 9 a.m. June 12 at the fairgrounds kitchen. Veterans throughout the county are invited to attend. The annual county picnic will be held at the picnic grounds at Friendship Park on July 20.

The Harrison County Veterans were congratulated on their fishing for veterans event that was held at the Mingo Sportsman Club. Members assisted A steak dinner followed.
